Conquering Ignorance and Poverty – One Child at a Time.

About Ex-Mays Global Charity

Mission Statement: To conquer ignorance and poverty – one child at a time.

Ex-Mays Global Charity (EMGC) is the philanthropic arm of Mayflower Old Students Association (MOSA). Based in Clinton Iowa, it is an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization founded to promote the legacy of Dr. Tai and Mrs. Sheila Solarin (Nigerian educationists and humanists) and support the mission of Mayflower School by ensuring that education is affordable and accessible to every child who is ready to learn and “work their fingers to the bone.” In the spirit of the mission statement, EMGC has donated books and computers to the School and continues to award merit and need-based academic scholarships to students annually.

About Tai and Sheila Solarin:

Tai and Sheila Solarin were the great educationists and humanists who founded Mayflower School, Ikenne Nigeria in 1956. Like the American Pilgrims who came to America on a ship named Mayflower in pursuit of religious freedom and liberty; Mayflower School was founded on the same premise – an egalitarian, libertarian and secular school where kids are taught self-reliance through hard work and are encouraged to reach for the stars in their life pursuits. Still considered to be one of the best high schools in Nigeria, Mayflower has produced and is still producing global (both inside and outside Nigeria) thought leaders in science, engineering, technology, medicine, agriculture etc.
